Gpa Boost For Honors Courses

Important News for High School Students: California GPA Changes

GPA Boost for Honors Courses

The University of California (UC) is making significant changes to its GPA calculation system, effective immediately. The new system will include an extra grade point for all UC-approved honors courses, including AP, IB, school-based honors, and transferable college courses with a grade of C or higher.

Median GPA and Percentile Range

In 2022, the median unweighted GPA for admitted UC freshmen was 4.00, with the middle 25-75th percentile ranging from 3.95 to 4.00. The new GPA system with the extra grade point for honors courses is expected to raise the median GPA and percentile range for future admissions.

For UCLA, please note that the new GPA system will not directly impact its admissions criteria, which are based on a holistic review of multiple factors, including GPA, test scores, extracurricular activities, and essays.
